Improving Filly Claimed at Saratoga

August 26, 2011
On August 26 at Saratoga, we claimed Saucy Jade, an improving 3-year old filly out of the ever-popular sire Rock Hard Ten. A $200,000 yearling, Saucy Jade is a versatile runner who can stalk or come from off the pace. She finished less than three lengths behind the winner that day, despite breaking from a difficult outside post position. Bruce Brown in New York is training our good-looking girl.

Lime Rickey Second at the Spa

August 6, 2011
On August 6th, Lime Rickey made his second start for Chalk Racing in a 1 3/8 mile turf race with a $58,000 purse at the Spa. With pilot Javier Castellano aboard against a full field of ten horses, he finished a game second while getting beat by just half a length. He stayed close to the pace while being 3 and 4 wide throughout the race. Unfortunately, he was claimed away from us, but we wish this gutsy gelding nothing but good health and safe trips ahead.

Star of New York Returns to Racing

July 15, 2011
After a 233 day vacation, our NY-bred is back at the racetrack. Even with the layoff, Star of New York still got respect at the windows in a $45,000 optional claiming race on July 15 at Belmont Park. By post time he was bet down to 5/2 odds, while his morning line was 6-1. Our hard knocker pressed the leader in the opening quarter mile in 23 and change. But he tired down the stretch and the long layoff was evident. We are looking forward to his second race in Chalk silks upstate in Saratoga, where he’s never been off the board in five lifetime starts.

He came out of the race in great shape, and we are looking forward to his next start for trainer Bruce Brown.

Whywhywhy Colt Joins Chalk Roster

June 19, 2011
We recently purchased a two-year-old Whywhywhy colt in a private sale at the OBS June sale in Ocala Florida. The June sale offers some great values for juveniles, and this New York-bred colt ran impressively in his timed workout for the sale, going a furlong in 10.2 seconds. In July, he shipped to Linda Rice in Saratoga and is already in race training.

Winery Fourth in Class Jump

May 26, 2011
On May 26 in the fourth race at Belmont Park, a $51,000 maiden special weight contest, Winery finished just out of the money in fourth place behind honest fractions and a blistering final furlong. We claimed her for only $25,000 at Gulfstream Park, so she seems well worth her purchase price. We think she’ll love going two turns in upstate NY this summer.

May 14, 2011
On May 14th at Belmont Park, Makeminechocolate finished a hard charging fourth, beaten by less than two lengths at the wire.
