Night Officer wins Belmont’s Around The Cape
May 16, 2013
On May 16, Night Officer won the $85,000 Around The Cape Stakes at Belmont Park. He was away fifth early on and saved ground with Jose Lezcano aboard. When asked, he was angled off the rail and closed powerfully on the pacesetter. Night Officer made the lead and bravely dug in to hold off the second place horse by a long neck. He's now being pointed to the Grade-3 Jaipur Stakes at Belmont, on June 7.
Night Officer Second in the Mister Diz
April 6, 2013
In his first start of 2013 Night Officer ran a game second in the $75,000 Mister Diz Stakes. He went off as the second favorite at 3-1. Night Officer broke last and was not in a hurry in the early stages. His best work came late in the race as he closed smartly on the rail and finished with a fury. We could not be happier with the effort and we're looking forward to his entire 2013 campaign.
The Cat is Back
March 21, 2013
Our hard knocking gelding Cat in the Forest is back on track after a nine-month layoff. He needed his first race, as he tired to a sixth place finish. But, in his next two starts he returned to his old self. He put together back-to-back thirds within two weeks with troubled trips. Cat's last effort on March 21 earned him an 89 Beyer number and covered the six furlongs in a snappy 1:10.46!
Majestic Hope Second at Parx
November 25, 2012
On November 25, we sent Majestic Hope to Philadelphia for a one-mile event. He went off as the 5/2 favorite with 2004 Kentucky Derby winning jockey Stewart Elliot in the irons. Majestic Hope was forced to race wide most of the race and still finished a game second. Unfortunately, that day we lost our boy via a claim. His 2012 record for Chalk Racing was 9-1-3-2, while earning over $76,000.
Wine Burglar Second by a Head
October 13, 2012
In her second lifetime start at Belmont Park, Wine Burglar was denied the win by a head. She raced greenly as she was curiously looking around down the stretch. Once she figured out what to do, she put her head down and got her big stride into action. We know Wine Burglar needs a two-turn race, so this sprint showed us her potential. It was a good learning experience, while picking up a nice check.
Night Officer Breaks Track Record
September 12, 2012
We shipped our boy south to Laurel Park on September 12 where he broke the track record covering the 5½ furlongs on the turf in a very swift 1:00.53! He sat chilly early on, but fought to the wire winning by two lengths under the mild hand urging of jockey Forest Boyce. It was truly a great homecoming for our Maryland bred horse.
Whiskey Breaks His Maiden
September 8, 2012
On September 8 our boy Why Not Whiskey won for the first time at Belmont. Although seven furlongs is not his best distance, he didn't disappoint. Whiskey was squeezed at the start and got away last, but that didn't seem to bother him as he mowed the leaders down and won by ½ length.
Whiskey Second at the Spa
August 12, 2012
On August 8, 2012 Why Not Whiskey came within a neck of a win at Saratoga. He sat eighth in a nine horse field most of the race, behind very slow fractions, but that didn't stop Whiskey from closing like a freight train down the stretch. He went off as the second favorite at 3-1 and didn't disappoint with a game effort. We look forward to his next start at Belmont Park.
Whiskey Third in 2012 Debut
July 4, 2012
On Independence Day Why Not Whiskey erupted in his first start of 2012 and first ever start on the grass. Our boy was excited to be back to work and was eager from the opening bell. Jose Lezcano worked to get Whiskey to relax after breaking fourth, but our hard to handle colt had other ideas. Whiskey was shuffled back to last, but at the top of the stretch he took off like a rocket. Even though he was interfered with he would not be denied finishing in the money. We look forward to his second 2012 start at the Spa.
Majestic Hope Second by a Nose
June 13, 2012
On June 13, the rain came for our boy Majestic Hope, who was an MTO entry in a $72,000 starter allowance race at Belmont Park. He had never raced on a sloppy track before, but the betting public made him the even-money chalk anyway. Coming down the stretch, he seemed out of the contest after racing four wide. But Majestic Hope found another gear while passing the leader, only to get nipped at the wire from a horse on the far outside. Game effort though!
