Ready for Rye celebrated the New Year in style with a gritty second-place effort in the $100,000 Spectacular Bid Stakes at Gulfstream Park on January 3. Ridden by Eclipse Award-winning rider, Javier Castellano, Ready for Rye chased swift early fractions before giving way to the winner nearing the final sixteenth. Despite losing, Ready for Rye finished strong, increasing his margin over the third place finisher through the stretch to 4-1/2 lengths at the wire and galloping out well after the race. The Spectacular Bid Stakes marked Ready for Rye’s first attempt in stakes company and came after a 83 day layoff following his maiden win at Belmont in October.

Wind of Bosphorus sure knows how to finish! Sent to post the favorite, the four-year-old gelding made his final start of 2014 and first start at Tampa Bay Downs a winning one by rallying from off the pace to just edge the runner-up by a head bob at the wire in a $16,000 claiming affair on the turf. Though claimed from Chalk Racing after the race, the victory added to what had already been a successful year for the stable. The final 2014 record: 41 starts, 4 wins, 6 seconds, and 10 thirds!

Our $70,000 yearling purchase made his maiden debut on September 1, at Saratoga. It was a gutsy performance by our baby boy who was bumped hard at the start but able to shake if off to make up a ton of ground early in the race. Javier Costellano put him next to the heavy favorite who had to dig in deep to fend our boy off. Costellano shut Rye down in the final seventy yards, once he saw the winner digging in for the victory. We’re Ready for Ryes’ next effort.
